There was no talking in the group as they moved quickly through the streets of the ruined city. There was actually one more number in their ranks than there should have been; Lichmaster Koraliam had wanted a demonstration of the spell that had freed Ariet. And though he was already starting to feel drained, Yerunan had obliged, if only not to throw any sort of suspicion on himself.
"So the corruption as you put it is just superficial?" Lichmaster Koraliam had asked.
"You can't disguise a soul."
The frown on the lichmaster's face said he clearly wanted to argue that point a little, but he refrained.

Ter'Nik was walking to the cafeteria again. He was hungry and there was nothing at the barracks. He saw it was looking like it was about closed, but walked over and got a few things to take back. As he was, he saw a familiar figure lying on one of the couches by the stairs to the monorail. He walked over and knelt down. It was Niterrel. "Hey," he said. "What're you doing here?"
She moaned lightly and opened an eye, "I have a roommate."
"Want to take a guess who?"
He was tired and shook his head.
